Review: Uncharted 4, A Thief’s End

Review Uncharted 4 FI

Ever since the announcement of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, I’ve been waiting impatiently for its release. But, man, was this story worth the wait. Given their impressive trackrecord, Uncharted 4 is unsurprisingly good, its everything to be expected from Naughty Dog. Regardless of high expectations, it blew my mind. An epic adventure from start to end.

A story worth telling

There are more cutscenes than before, but you wouldn’t mind, for it is no punishment to watch. It feels like a good movie you completely get sucked into. The acting is on point and facial expressions are perfect. Every aspect shows Naughty Dog cares about the details! When you walk around with your flashlight and accidentally shine in your companions face, he turns his head away, closing his eyes. Aside from the amazing cutscenes, the random conversations between Nathan and his friends and/or his enemies are equally funny. Nathan is a smart-ass, but everybody who have played the previous games before knows that. No matter the difficult situation, he and his buddies always know how to crack a joke. Make the best of a situation no matter the hardship. a talent a lot of people could learn from.

Review Uncharted 4 Nathan

The highly likeable Nathan is a couple years older in this game, but hasn’t lost any of his famed wit. In the previous game the characters somewhat shallow, amazingly charming, highly loveable, but hardly ever any more depth than needed for the narrative. Taking some notes from their last big game, The Last of Us, Uncharted 4 turns that completely around. This time around the is a lot more character-building, which in turn makes you like the characters even more and made me fall in love with Nathan more than I ever was before.

Breathtaking beauty

Needless to say, the graphics are gorgeous. I frequently stopped just to enjoy the view. The enormous scenery is breathtaking, as there is so many to see. Uncharted takes you from the blue sea and the jungle to the islands and everywhere the detail is astonishing. The graphic beauty doesn’t stop at the environment, the characters look amazing as well. Every scar, hair, wrinkle and ‘flaws’ are detailed and believable. Naughty Dog did, yet again, an amazing job on the graphics, the transitions between the cut-scenes and gameplay are flawless.

Time flies when you’re having fun

People who can’t seem to get enough of Uncharted should be happy to hear this game is longer than the previous instalments. Thanks to the great pacing however, it’s still over before you know it. You get dragged along in the storyline. With every shot, jump, climb and swing you will be on the edge of your seat.

Uncharted 4 is worth every dollar, euro or whatever the currency is you are spending on it. Naughty Dog did an amazing job ending Nathan’s journey. They hoped that the ending would be well received by the fans, and in the opinion of this fan, they did an amazing job. It got me. Well done, Naughty Dog, and thank you.. again!

Her biggest passions are gaming, cats and Game of Thrones. Luckily, they don't conflict.. but if they did, she'd lawyer them into submission. Her favourite games are The Last of Us and the Uncharted serie but will play any quality game as long as the main focus isn't racing. Sam on Twitter
